If water is coming through your ceiling right now, the goal in the next hour is to limit damage, not to fix the roof. Fixing the roof comes second and usually needs dry weather. A temporary dry-in, a tarp or sealed patch that stops water entering, is how a roofer bridges the gap between the storm and the repair.
We are a referral service, not a roofer. We cannot promise a crew in an hour. What we do is connect you with a vetted local roofer and tell the roofer it is an active leak. The roofer sets arrival time based on the schedule and conditions, and a storm week fills calendars quickly, so call early.
Is a leaking roof an emergency?
It is if water is actively entering and you cannot stop the damage yourself. It is an urgent but not emergency repair if the leak is slow, small and contained. Use these as a guide.
| Situation | Treat it as | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Water dripping or running through a ceiling during rain | Emergency | Drywall, insulation and electrical fixtures take on water fast |
| Sagging, bulging ceiling | Emergency | A heavy pocket of water can bring the ceiling down |
| Water near a light fixture, outlet or breaker panel | Emergency, safety first | Water and electricity; see the safety steps below |
| Roof section missing or lifted after a windstorm | Emergency | The deck is open to the next rain |
| Old brown stain that is not growing | Urgent, not emergency | Book a free inspection and have it traced |
| Small drip only in the heaviest storms | Urgent, not emergency | Tackle it before the next monsoon |
What to do in the first hour
- Protect people and electrical first. If water is near light fixtures, outlets or the panel, stay clear and turn off power to that area at the breaker only if you can reach it safely and dry. If in doubt, call an electrician.
- Contain the water. Move furniture and valuables, put buckets under drips and lay plastic over what cannot move.
- Relieve a bulging ceiling. A small hole at the lowest point of the bulge lets the water drain into a bucket instead of letting the panel fall.
- Photograph everything with dates: the ceiling, the room and the roof from the ground. Roofers and insurers both ask.
- Do not go on the roof. Wet membranes are slick, roof surfaces in summer can be burn-hot, and falls are the real danger.
- Call or book and say it is an active leak so the visit can include a temporary dry-in.
What emergency roof repair costs
Ranges are modelled El Paso orientation figures, not quotes, and an after-hours or storm-week premium is possible. Ask for the price in writing before work starts. Our roof repair cost guide has the full table.
| Service | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Temporary dry-in (tarp or sealed patch) | $300 – $800 | Credited toward the repair if you proceed |
| Reseal a seam, blister or flashing detail | $300 – $1,000 | The permanent fix for many flat-roof leaks |
| Parapet flashing or coping repair | $400 – $1,500 | Common after the first heavy storm |
| Wind damage to shingles or flashing | $500 – $3,000 | May include deck repair |
Emergency roof repair near me: how to book
Call the number on this page or book a free inspection online, and say it is an active leak. The vetted roofer we refer works the El Paso area and the Texas valleys, roughly an hour's drive out. Say your address, whether the leak is above living space, and whether you have photos. If a roofer cannot arrive the same day, ask for a temporary dry-in to be prioritised and for the earliest inspection slot. An honest roofer will tell you when the next opening is rather than promise a time they cannot keep.
After the emergency: the real repair
A dry-in is not the repair. Once the roof is dry, the roofer traces the source, which on flat roofs is usually a parapet cap, a seam, a drain or a penetration. If the insulation is wet it is replaced, and if the roof is near the end of its life you will be shown the repair and replacement numbers side by side. See flat roof leak repair and monsoon roof damage.
Be careful after a storm
Storm weeks bring door-knockers. In Texas a contractor cannot offer to waive your insurance deductible or act as your adjuster, and contracts of $1,000 or more tied to an insurance settlement must carry a deductible notice. A free inspection you book yourself, with the price in writing and time to decide, is the safer path. We do not help with insurance claims.

Questions homeowners ask
Is a leaking roof an emergency?
If water is actively entering, near electrical fixtures or bulging the ceiling, yes. A slow, small leak is urgent but can usually wait for a scheduled inspection.
Who do I call for emergency roof repair in El Paso?
Call or book a free inspection through this site and say it is an active leak. A vetted local roofer sets the arrival time and can arrange a temporary dry-in.
Can you come out today?
We cannot guarantee a time because the roofer controls the schedule, especially in storm weeks. Tell us it is an active leak so it is flagged for the earliest opening.
How much does an emergency tarp or dry-in cost?
Roughly $300 to $800, credited toward the repair if you proceed, as a modelled orientation range.
What should I do while I wait for the roofer?
Contain the water, relieve any bulging ceiling, photograph the damage and stay off the roof. Keep clear of water near electrical fixtures.
Will insurance cover emergency roof repair?
Sudden, covered damage may be covered, but you pay the deductible and a contractor cannot waive it. Keep photos and receipts.
